The leaders and the challengers meet at the Etihad on Monday night as second placed Manchester City host defending champions Manchester United. Those home supporters having bought Manchester City Tickets should be in for a classic as City’s title hopes could be made or broken in this clash.
City had written off their title hopes following their loss to Arsenal, but last weekend’s results, which saw them beating Wolves 2-0 and United surprisingly letting go of a two goal advantage to draw 4-4 with Everton, threw open the title race again.
City are three points behind United, but possess a much healthier goal difference, thanks to results such as their 6-1 thumping of United at Old Trafford earlier this season, amongst others. Victory here would draw them level with the Red Devils and if they do, they would simply need to win their last two games or match United’s results to claim the title.
Those home fans who had bought Manchester United Tickets for their home clash against Everton would have been delighted seeing the quality of goals their team scored, but would have been equally saddened by their team’s shoddy defending. Right back Rafael in particular was culpable and Man Utd can ill afford another horror show at the back from the Brazilian youngster, with City having tremendous attacking firepower with the likes of Tevez, Aguero and Silva on hand to take advantage.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has already labeled this clash as the most important derby in his time at Old Trafford and should they win, the Red Devils will become the first team to take away full points from the Etihad in the league this season.
It is the team with the best home record in the league against the best travellers.
